Five things spotted in Leeds United training as Junior Firpo develops partnership fans will love

Leeds United's players are back into the swing of first-team training as pre-season is now well into its second week.

Marcelo Bielsa and his staff have devised a rigorous training regime to put the squad through their paces ahead of the 2021/22 campaign in which supporters will be expectant after last year's success.

Leeds finished in ninth place during their first season back in the top flight for 16 years, and will now look to consolidate their place in the Premier League's mid-table maelstrom.

Ahead of their season opener against Manchester United in a month's time, the vast majority of Leeds players have returned to Thorp Arch, raring to go.

Here's what we noticed in the club's latest training video.

Klich and Coops back to business

Mateusz Klich and captain Liam Cooper are back at Thorp Arch after a well-earned rest following EURO 2020.

The pair were eliminated along with their respective nations Poland and Scotland at the end of the Group Stage in mid-June and have enjoyed some time off with friends and family in the interim period.

While some players may have been keen to spend more time on the sun-loungers, Klich and Cooper can be seen in the video undergoing fitness tests with coach Benoit Delaval and putting the work in at the club's purpose-built, state-of-the-art gym.

U23s involved

It was expected that Leeds' first-team coaches would include a number of U23s in the early weeks of pre-season to account for the six players representing their nations at EURO 2020.

Now, into the regime's second week, Nohan Kenneh and Joe Gelhardt have retained their place amongst the seniors, which certainly bodes well for the upcoming campaign.

In a small-sided game towards the end of the video, Stuart McKinstry and Crysencio Summerville were also spotted taking part.

Firpo's partnership

Leeds United fans will be pleased to see Junior Firpo getting to grips with a Leeds United pre-season after he sealed a £13 million move from Barcelona earlier this month.

Firpo demonstrated a good grasp of English in his first interview as a Leeds player, and has no doubt been putting that to good use, already striking up a close partnership with Jack Harrison it seems.

Junior was spotted joking with the now-permanent Leeds man, as well as buddying up in one of the day's exercises.

Costa fighting fit

Helder Costa missed the end of the 2020/21 campaign with a back injury, but appears to have shaken off any lingering issues with that particular problem.

The newly-pledged Angolan international was seen darting around the training pitches at Thorp Arch, much to his delight.

No sign of Koch

Robin Koch posted an image on his Instagram yesterday indicating he was back at Thorp Arch and undergoing tests ahead of pre-season training.

The German was not spotted in the latest training video, suggesting he has not been reintegrated into the group following the customary tests.

Tyler Roberts, Diego Llorente and Kalvin Phillips were also absent for obvious reasons following their participation at EURO 2020.
