Five things I learned from working a shift at McDonald's on Briggate

By far the busiest fast food restaurant in the city, most people in Leeds have some experience of McDonald's on Briggate.

Whether it is morning or afternoon, night or day, the city centre branch is constantly rammed with punters hungry for a Big Mac or a box of McNuggets.

The demand is there, so, you'd imagine it is pretty busy in the kitchen? Too right.

We went behind the scenes to What happened when I worked a shift at McDonald's on Briggate on Briggate, and there are plenty of  quirks of the trade that ensure Leeds' busiest fast food outlet can deliver time and time again.

We also found out about a sneaky tip that could help you modify your favourite burger.

Free meal EVERY single shift

This has to be the best perk of working at McDonald's - it might be a busy job, but you are rewarded with a free meal EVERY single shift.

Imagine being able to devour a Big Mac or a Chicken Legend every single time you step into work - the dream!

We asked McDonald's employees if they ever get tired of eating their own food, and every single one said that they still love it. Nuff said.

Hash browns on a Big Mac?!

If you arrive at the perfect time you could be in for a treat (Rui Vieira/PA Wire)

We all know the pain of arriving to McDonald's at 10:31am and missing out on the breakfast menu. Heartbreaking.

According to maccies staff, if you arrive a few minutes earlier, you could be in for something even more special than a Sausage & Egg McMuffin.

McDonald's workers begin clearing away the breakfast utensils and food at around 10:20am, so if you arrive around then, you may be able to request some of the leftover food as part of your order.

They say that some punters have successfully managed to blag their way to a hash brown in their Big Mac, as well as other weird and wonderful alterations.

Arrive in the changeover time - who knows what you'll end up with!

There is a Big Mac sauce gun

Amazingly, McDonald's famous Big Mac sauce is put onto the burger using a GUN.

Each Big Mac requires two 'shots' from the gun, giving each and every burger its distinctive flavour.

Counting every grain

McDonald's use this special salt dispenser to make sure that every batch of fries has the exact amount of salt needed - every grain is counted!

The specific process is the reason why McDonald's fries taste exactly the same around the world.

A robot cooks the burgers

Cooking a quarter pounder only takes the push of a button as a robot designed to cook both sides of the burger at the same time does the rest of the work.

Once you push the button a heated metal surface lowers onto the grill, and both sides cook at the same temperature.

The quarter pounder is ready in around 110 seconds, and ready to go into the burgers that we know and love!
