Five teens arrested after memorial benches torched at Scots park

Police have arrested five teenagers after three memorial benches were torched at a park in Fife.

Emergency services were called to Pittencrieff Park in Dunfermline on Wednesday, January 27, after the wooden seats were set on fire at around 7pm.

Mountains of discarded booze bottles were also dumped at the scene while several bins were also allegedly set alight.

A police probe was launched and officers have now charged the youths, all aged between 13 and 15, in connection.

Two members of the same group have also been accused of stealing bins from Kirkgate and vandalising a car on the nearby Chalmers Street on the same date.

Sergeant Ross Crawford, of the Dunfermline Community Policing Team, said: “These kinds of acts of vandalism have caused a lot of distress in the community and will not be tolerated.

“Anyone with information relating to such incidents should contact Police Scotland on 101.”

A local community fundraiser was launched to help replace the destroyed benches and has since raised almost £500.
