Northbound lanes have re-opened on the Pacific Motorway at Halloran after a crash involving four trucks caused hours of traffic chaos on the M1 on Wednesday morning.

Five men were taken to hospital with minor injuries, after a B-double ran into the back of a stationary roadworks truck in the early hours of the morning, around 2.10am, pushing it into another two roadworks trucks also stopped on the roadside.

The driver of the truck suffered a shoulder injury and will also undergo mandatory testing, while four roadworkers were taken to be checked as a precaution and for treatment for the effects of shock.

A major clean-up operation got underway with emergency services at the scene of the crash and police officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District have commenced an investigation to determine what caused the incident.

The Transport Management Centre says both northbound lanes have re-opened but traffic is heavy, so motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.

Police are calling for anyone with dashcam vision of the incident, or any dashcam vision they believe may be relevant to the investigation, to contact Wyong Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

  • Owing to significant traffic delays as a result of this incident, and to a power outage during printing, deliveries of Wednesday's Newcastle Herald have been delayed. The Herald apologises for the inconvenience. The digital edition of today's paper is available to subscriber's via the Herald website, here.
