Five takeaways from Day 1 of Titans training camp

The offseason has come to a close, and the Tennessee Titans have officially kicked off training camp.

Even this early on, there’s already plenty to talk about. Between possible injuries and players bouncing back from last season’s injuries, Friday’s practice was an eventful one.

Here are five takeaways from the first day of Titans training camp.

1. TE Delanie Walker appeared to be at full capacity.

Many called Walker’s ability to recover from his Week 1 injury in 2018 into question this offseason. But based on Walker’s performance on Friday, last year’s season-ending ankle injury looked to be no more than a memory.

We can safely expect Walker to be his usual self when the regular season kicks off.

2. WR A.J. Brown and RB Derrick Henry both went to the locker room early.

The Titans may have two very important players banged up after Friday’s practice.

According to a tweet from ESPN’s Theron Davenport, Brown “slipped as he planted his left foot to make a break and didn’t come back after walking into the locker room.”

Henry left practice right after the team stretch, just before the individual period, per the same report.

3. A handful of players worked on the far field.

There were a few players who worked away from the others and got reps in on the far field. Defensive end Jeffery Simmons, veteran defensive end Jurrell Casey and tight end Jonnu Smith were among the group.

4. Titans recognized their top performers.

The Titans paid recognition to select players on Friday for their work in the weight room and overall effort put in throughout the offseason.

Tennessee took time to recognize quarterback Marcus Mariota, running back David Fluellen, defensive end Matt Dickerson and wide receiver Cameron Batson.

5. We’ll see a new, bulked up Marcus Mariota.

As the starting signal-caller enters the fifth and final year of his rookie deal, staying healthy is top priority.

Mariota told reporters he plans to maintain a weight between 225-230 pounds throughout the season. Last year, Mariota stayed more within the 215-220 weight range.
