Five surprising and subtle signs that show if you've had and recovered from Covid

Five subtle signs you have already had and beaten Covid 19 have been revealed by a study, but you may be surprised to know where the markers show.

It turns out that our hands can reveal if we've had the potentially deadly bug - with lines on your nails being a major indicator according to experts.

The ZOE Covid 19 Symptom Study app has spoken out about lines on nails being a potential signal of Covid for months now.

Horizontal lines - known as "Mees lines" - are one such symptom, according to experts.

Grooves across the fingernails, around five millimetres from the nail bed, are also a common indicator.

A half moon which is visibly red in colour can also be significant.

And so can orange nail tips , with discolouration presenting in patients on the continent

The final sign is nail lifting, or onychomadesis , which is the loss of a nail from its root without any pain or swelling.

One expert has warned: "There’s another part of the body where the virus appears to have an impact - the fingernails.

"Currently, the available evidence suggests that there’s no association between the severity of Covid-19 infection and the type or extent of nail changes."

And Prof Tim Spector, lead of the Symptom Study App, has warned: "Do your nails look odd? COVID nails are increasingly being recognised as the nails recover after infection and the growth recovers leaving a clear line. Can occur without skin rashes and appears harmless."
