Five-star prospect Isaiah Todd decommits from Michigan to play professionally

The hits keep coming for Michigan basketball.

Twelve hours after the Wolverines missed out on five-star guard Josh Christopher, they lost a five-star prospect who was already committed to playing in Ann Arbor.

Five-star forward Isaiah Todd, who committed to Michigan last fall, reportedly will forgo college basketball and pursue a pro career.

"This was a tough decision for him, but he just feels like this is what's best for him and his development," Marlene Venable, Todd's mother, told Sports Illustrated. "We love Michigan and Juwan (Howard), but, at the end of the day, he has to make the best decision for him."

Playing professionally has been the choice of a select few prospects in the past decade, especially overseas. Todd becomes the latest blue-chip recruit to skip college basketball in hopes of kick-starting a professional career, and the latest mega-prospect to spurn Michigan.

Ranked No. 13 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings, Todd would've been the highest-ranked U-M signee in the recruiting rankings era and the first McDonald's All-American in nearly two decades. With Christopher picking Arizona State late Monday night, Todd would have been the crown jewel of the Wolverines' fourth-ranked recruiting class.

Now, instead of signing two five-stars in the 2020 class, Michigan will sign zero. The remaining players in U-M's class: four-star guard Zeb Jackson; four-star center Hunter Dickinson; four-star forward Terrance Williams; and three-star forward Jace Howard, son of coach Juwan Howard, who has agreed to walk on.
