Five-star point guard Jeremy Roach commits to Duke

Duke is getting quite a head start on its 2020 recruiting class.

Five-star point guard Jeremy Roach, a Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.) star who tore his ACL in a preseason scrimmage and missed his entire junior season, committed to the Blue Devils on Wednesday.

Ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 point guard and No. 15 player overall in the 2020 class, Roach gives Duke a player they can already consider a prized piece as they continue contending.

Roach selected the Blue Devils over North Carolina, Villanova and Kentucky.

Paul VI was ranked No. 7 overall in the Way-Too-Early preseason Super 25 Boys Basketball Rankings released on May 2.

Duke gets a recruit who has won gold medals at the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup and led his team to a win at the Nike Peach Jam.

The news of Roach’s commitment comes just four days after Chosen 25 forward Jalen Johnson announced Duke as one of the teams in his top four.

The Chosen 25 does not include players who haven’t played in the last four months. If it did, Roach’s estimated spot would be in the 10-to-15 range.

With him on board and Johnson considering, Duke has put together a strong beginning to its class coming off six consecutive years with either the No. 1 or No. 2 class in the nation, as ranked by 247Sports.
