NT Police have branded a violent 24 hours in the Territory, which included reports of five stabbings and a television allegedly being hurled at paramedics from a Darwin apartment, as a "tragic" end to 2018.
The incidents took place overnight and came off the back of a bloody Christmas period where murder and manslaughter charges were laid over two deaths.
Three men aged 23, 24 and 27 were yesterday charged with murder over the allegedly fatal bashing of a 19-year-old man in Borroloola on December 23.
Detectives have also been investigating the suspicious death of a 68-year-old man in Humpty Doo on Christmas Day.
Jason Brooker, 48, was arrested and charged with manslaughter over the incident.
He is due to face court over the matter in late February.
Five stabbings across NT
St John Ambulance's Craig Garraway told ABC Local Radio that paramedics attended five reports of stabbings overnight in Pine Creek, Katherine, Alice Springs and two in Darwin.
"We normally have an odd stabbing here or there, but yes, five [reported] yesterday [December 27] and overnight is a bit bizarre," Mr Garraway said.
"And spread right across the Territory ... they've all been quite serious stabbings."
He said the most serious was in the former gold mining town of Pine Creek, where a man had to be transferred to Katherine, and then flown by CareFlight to Darwin with significant injuries.
Just after midnight a 41-year-old man also had to be hospitalised with stab wounds after an incident in the northern Darwin suburb of Jingili.
Superintendent Bruce Payne said a 53-year-old had been arrested over the alleged attack.
Paramedics attacked while responding to incident
Paramedics also attended an incident last night where a man had fallen four storeys from a building in the Narrows.
A television was reportedly thrown at emergency services workers while they were on the scene.
"It appears a TV or something was thrown at our paramedics from someone while they were on that scene, which is a bit unfortunate," Mr Garraway said.
The man who fell was transported to hospital in a serious condition, but was said to be recovering.
Taxi driver assaulted, cab stolen
Superintendent Payne said a taxi driver was assaulted in the Darwin seaside suburb of Fannie Bay on Thursday night.
The taxi was then allegedly stolen and involved in a crash in Winnellie.
"Police are currently investigating the matter with the suspect identified and in custody," Supt Payne said.
The cabbie was treated at the Royal Darwin Hospital for minor injuries.
'Tragic' end to 2018: Wurst
Acting Assistant Commissioner Travis Wurst said the "only way to describe the period just leading up to Christmas and after Christmas has been tragic".
"Many of these incidents have been alcohol related," he said.
"Unfortunately in the last seven days or so we've seen multiple incidents of tragedy across the Territory."
Mr Garraway urged Territorians to stay safe on the roads and while out and about over New Year's Eve.
