The cabinet has approved a five-day Songkran break this year during April 12-16.
Since April 14-15 are Saturday and Sunday, Songkran this year would have only four days so the cabinet approved April 12 as a public holiday to create a long holiday during the festival, said Col Athisit Chainuvat, assistant spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office.
“Long holidays drive the economy and support tourism-related businesses, “ he said.
