Five Sisters Zoo in West Lothian is providing a series of free online animal education classes for kids while schools remain shut.
Those at the hugely-popular zoo say the sessions will run twice a week – on Tuesdays and Thursdays – throughout the current lockdown. They want as many children as possible to get involved, and are even inviting teachers to include the sessions in their school timetables as remote learning takes place.
Videos will be made available on YouTube, with the first class already online having taken place on Tuesday (12 January).
Those at the zoo say: "Throughout this period of lockdown Adam, our head of education, will be presenting new short online classes (roughly 20 minutes) for school learners that will be made available each Tuesday and Thursday at 11am!
"These classes will be accompanied by activity sheets so those at home can get involved."
Week one was about habitats and adaptations, and there will be new themes each week.
They add: "The sessions are aimed at primary school pupils, however we hope learners of all ages will take part and enjoy.
"If any teachers want to timetable these sessions in as a part of their home learning schedule, please contact adam@fivesisterszoo.co.uk. This way we can get links to videos/activities sent directly to you via email each Tuesday/ Thursday."
Edinburgh Live reported last month how Five Sisters Zoo had remained open as a walking route during the lockdown, with people able to show up and see the animals for free during their daily exercise.
