Five shops catch fire in Panchkula's Sector 7 market

PANCHKULA: Five shops caught fire in the Sector 7 market early on Sunday. It took six fire tenders five hours to douse the flames. Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal and Haryana Assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta visited the market and met shop owners.

Fire station officials said that the fire broke out at around 1.15am and soon after security guards of the Sector 7 market alerted them, fire tenders were rushed to the spot. By the time the fire tenders reached, the fire had spread to nearby shops. The market security guard also called shop owners, who arrived at the spot.

Later in the day, two shop owners found that all the goods in their shops had been gutted while the remaining shops suffered minor damage.

Chairman, Market Committee, Sector 7, Deep Krishan Chauhan said, "It was a very unfortunate incident and the government must help the shopkeepers financially to revive their business."

Speaker Gian Chand Gupta announced Rs 1 lakh compensation to three shopkeepers and Rs 50,000 help to one shopkeeper for their loss in the fire.
