Five rottweilers eat man's face after he was blown off ladder during Storm Ciara

Five rottweilers ate their owner's face after he was knocked off his ladder by strong winds during Storm Ciara. last weekend.

Emergency services were confronted with the five vicious dogs when they arrived at the scene in Normandy, France but were unable to save the man.

A police source told local media the victim's wife called firefighters at 8.45pm but they couldn't approach the victim due to the presence of the five "very menacing" rottweilers.

The same police spokesperson also stated the dog's had "inflicted injuries on their master's face".

These injuries are said to have occurred a few seconds after he had fallen.

The incident took place at around on Sunday, February 9, as storm Ciara battered the country.

A specialist police unit trained to deal with canines was called out but they also failed to control the rottweilers.

As a result an order was given for three of the dogs - the most aggressive - to be shot so he could be rescued.

The two other dogs were reportedly taken inside the house by the victim's wife, who has also not been identified.

She was taken to hospital in "a state of shock" according to a neighbour quoted in local media but is otherwise unharmed.

But the victim, said to be 69 years old, died.

A post mortem is reportedly underway in order to determine the exact cause of death.
