Everton are heading towards another important summer transfer window after the culmination of the season.
The Blues are hoping to secure European football in the final match of the campaign, but face a tough task in getting a result against champions Man City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday while hoping other results go their way.
Regardless of whether Carlo Ancelotti's side can secure that aim, however, there will need to be multiple positions strengthened in the transfer window.
As has proven useful in the past, could Everton again turn to relegated sides to fill some of those holes in the squad?
We've picked out five players who went down with Sheffield United, West Brom and Fulham that could be of interest to the Blues in certain situations.
Sander Berge
This is someone that already has a fair amount of talk about them, including links to Everton in some reports.
Sander Berge joined Sheffield United in January 2020 and was a regular fixture in Chris Wilder's side at the beginning of this season as they struggled to pick up any points in the Premier League.
However, after playing just 12 minutes against Manchester United in December, the midfielder suffered a torn hamstring which required surgery - keeping him out of action until this month.
There's little doubt the bottom-placed club missed his influence in the centre of the park, and it would be a surprise to see the Norway international stay at Bramall Lane this summer.
A number of top clubs have been linked with a potential swoop over the last few weeks, with some reports suggesting the 23-year-old's buyout clause could have significantly dropped as a result of Sheffield United's relegation.
Arsenal, Liverpool, AC Milan and Everton have all been credited with interest in Berge in recent reports - with the Blues still suffering issues in central midfield over the course of this campaign.
Reinforcements in that area could be possible, but would the Norway international be one of them?
Matheus Pereira
A right-winger is something that Evertonians have known for a while that the club desperately need in the upcoming transfer window.
In terms of wide attackers, the Blues seem to be lacking in quality - and that could decrease further with the potential departure of Bernard in the summer.
With Richarlison now seemingly considered as a striker by Ancelotti it looks as though Everton's need to add some pace, creativity and goals down the flank is becoming a top priority.
That's where Matheus Pereira would potentially come into the mix.
The 25-year-old is a left-footed right winger, meaning he's very capable of cutting inside and causing a threat on goal if he needs to.
His 11 goals and six assists in 33 Premier League matches is a pretty impressive return for someone who has found himself relegated with his club, and he even bagged himself a goal at Goodison right at the beginning of the campaign as well.
Versatile enough to play in the centre or on the opposite flank as well, Pereira could be an interesting option for the Blues if they were to be looking his way.
RB Leipzig have already been credited with an interest in the Brazilian by some reports, with West Ham and Leeds also linked if the 25-year-old were to stay in the Premier League.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles
This might be cheating a tiny bit because he doesn't necessarily play for a relegated club, but he was part of a squad that went down this season, so we're counting it.
Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles made the move to West Brom in the January transfer window as Sam Allardyce attempted to save the club from the drop - which of course proved fruitless.
The 23-year-old had been a rather regular fixture for the Baggies throughout the second half of the campaign - winning three, drawing five and losing six of his 14 matches for the club.
All of that came from central midfield, however - and that might not necessarily be the position Everton would be looking at for Maitland-Niles.
The England international has played at full back during his career and that could be more intriguing for the Blues if they were to look in his direction, as they are on the hunt for a right-sided defender.
The versatility of the 23-year-old would be an asset, but signing a player from a Premier League rival does usually increase the price.
Everton could well look for other options in this case.
Alphonse Areola
This might not exactly be a top priority position for Everton in the summer, and could easily depend on those who are already at the club.
Jordan Pickford has been fantastic in recent months, there's no question, and that could well have been helped by having a stronger amount of competition at the club.
Robin Olsen has been a solid loan signing throughout the campaign and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him sign a permanent deal with the club, especially as Ancelotti has regularly spoken of his desire for that to happen.
However, if that doesn't go through, then the Blues could do worse than looking towards Alphonse Areola to provide a little more competition to their No. 1.
Again this could be considered cheating somewhat, as the Frenchman is on loan with the Cottagers from Paris Saint-Germain currently, but we're having it.
Recent reports have already linked West Ham with a potential swoop for the 28-year-old in the summer, with a potential price tag of £15m being rumoured in some quarters.
That would probably be a bit too high for someone who wouldn't really be expected to start ahead of Pickford at the current moment.
But, it's an option to consider perhaps.
Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa
Finally, we come to a position that Everton could well be looking to improve in the summer.
Despite the amount of investment that the Blues pumped into their central midfield last year, there have still been issues in that area of the pitch.
So, could Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa be the solution to those issues?
The Cameroon international has already been linked to a host of clubs in the Premier League after Fulham's relegation had been confirmed, no doubt due to his consistency despite not being able to save his side from the drop.
Good at dribbling with the ball at his feet, strong in bringing the ball forwards and adept at winning the ball back for his side - the 25-year-old has been a crucial member of Scott Parker's squad.
Anguissa has played in 35 of Fulham's matches this term as they head towards the final day, bagging three Premier League assists in that spell.
Arsenal and Everton have already been linked by numerous reports for a potential summer swoop as it seems clear the Blues need to strengthen that area of the pitch.
The Fulham man could provide that if chosen by the recruitment team.
