Five relaxing places to go in Glasgow to clear your head

Sometimes you just need to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and find a nice quiet place to clear your thoughts.

You might think that finding a quiet spot in a busy city like Glasgow would be near impossible.

However, there are several places in the city centre where you can escape to to have a relaxing moment to yourself.

Here are some of the best hideouts where you can chill, enjoy your surroundings and gather your thoughts.

The Mitchell Library

Beautiful both inside and out, the Mitchell Library is Scotland’s largest public reference library, housing an enormous wealth of resources covering all topics. It's the perfect place to escape to enjoy some quiet time and get lost in a good book. You can hear a pin drop in this place and there's a real atmosphere of calm as well as mutual respect among visitors.

The Lighthouse

As well as being a historical piece of architecture, an exhibition space and visitor centre, the thing that makes The Lighthouse stand out is the view from the sixth floor viewing platform. If you ever just need some perspective, here is the place to get it. There's something so relaxing about sitting in a quiet space and watching the busy world go by down below.

Kelvingrove Park/ Glasgow Green

In Glasgow, we are lucky to have several, beautiful parks dotted around, but Kelvingrove Park and Glasgow Green are arguably two of the most popular.

Kelvingrove Park is a public park located in the West End of the city of Glasgow containing the famous Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Straddling the River Kelvin, the park is overlooked by the University of Glasgow. This beautiful park makes for a perfect walk surrounded by nature.

Similarly, Glasgow Green in the east end makes for a lovely place to go on a day out. The park is generously landscaped with well maintained grass, flowers and trees with plenty of paved walkways for a nice easy stroll amongst greenery.
Also in the park and worth seeing is the People's Palace, McLennan Arch, the Doulton Fountain and the Nelson Monument.

Necropolis

Inspired by the famous Père Lachaise in Paris, Glasgow’s Necropolis is a remarkable Victorian cemetery adorned with thousands of monuments. You can wander among the graves and discover some of Glasgow's fascinating past. The place is known for its beauty and is peacefully quiet (eerily-so some might say), but is famous for its beauty.

Glasgow University

Granted, Glasgow University, may not be the most peaceful place during class time, when students are hurriedly making their way across the campus. But if you go there out-with study hours you'll have the chance to appreciate the beauty of the institution.  Its atmospheric cloisters make it a great spot for fans of architecture or photography. Simply walking between buildings makes for a lovely, scenic stroll.
