Five pubs in the running to be Liverpool's Pub of the Year 2020

Five Liverpool pubs are shortlisted for 2020's Pub of the Year award.

Four are city centre venues while the fifth is The Sandon in Anfield with the winner due to be announced on May 14 in a ceremony at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral.

The Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2020 announced its full shortlist yesterday with other categories including Best Restaurant, Café of the Year, B&B/ Guest House of the Year and more.

The full list of the places nominated for Pub of the Year are Abditory, Liverpool Gin Distillery, The Alchemist, The Bridewell, The Sandon and Smugglers Cove.

All those shortlisted, will now go forward to the final judging panel ahead of the awards ceremony.

Abditory, which is based on one of Liverpool's much-loved streets Queens Avenue, took to Instagram to share the team's excitement at being shortlisted.

In a post, they said: "Very pleased to be joining some greats on the shortlist for Liverpool Tourism Awards after just over 3 months of trading."

Smugglers Cove also took to Twitter to say its team were "over the moon" to be nominated. While the Bridewell said: "How excited are we to make the shortlist."
