At least five police vehicles descended on a street this evening to reports that two people were attacked inside a house.
Onlookers told of a huge emergency service presence tonight on Swanside Avenue, Swanside, near Dovecot.
Footage from the scene shows an ambulance parked outside a house with its Christmas lights on down a narrow street.
An onlooker at the scene said: "I'm not sure how long ago it happened but it looks like something serious and that someone is about to be put in the back of an ambulance."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said officers were called to reports of an assault at a property.
They were called to Swanside Avenue shortly before 8pm.
Police said that two people were taken to hospital and their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
They said the incident is still in its early stages so no further details are available.
