It comes after two men, aged 39 and 60, and three women, aged 37, 22 and 65, were taken to hospital for treatment, following a hit-and-run in Scotland, also in the early hours of Sunday.
An abandoned silver Ford Fiesta with a smashed windscreen and missing wheels was pictured behind a cordon in Lothian Street, Edinburgh, this morning.
Police Scotland said it responded to reports of five pedestrians being hit by a vehicle in Rose Street, near its junction with Frederick Street, at around 12.40am.
The vehicle failed to stop at the scene and subsequently was involved in a crash with a bus, a spokesperson added.
They said the patients remain in a stable condition.
