Five police cars 'box in' woman's vehicle in dramatic arrest

Five police cars surrounded a woman's vehicle as she was arrested on a busy route in Bristol city centre.

Sophie Harding, 35, was detained on Bond Street while driving towards the Bearpit roundabout at 11.20am on Thursday (April 15).

Wanted on warrant, Harding was taken by police to Bristol Magistrates' Court, where she pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance in Knightsbridge, London, last year.

Harding, of Snow Hill in Bath, was caught behind the wheel of a grey Chrysler Sebring in Pont Street, where properties have an average price of £11.4million, according to Rightmove.

The defendant admitted the offences, which took place on September 1 last year. She was bailed ahead of an appearance at Bath Magistrates' Court, which she is due to attend on May 12.

A witness to the arrest on Bond Street said: "I’m working in an opposite office, and saw the police unit bring the car to a stop and surrounded by officers.

"Three marked police cars, and two unmarked, boxed the car in. The female driver stepped out of the car and was immediately put in handcuffs, while officers searched the car and subsequently her too, before she was put into another vehicle and driven away."
