Four Arsenal players who could leave on domestic transfer deadline day as Arteta makes changes

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal squad for the next few months will be completed later today.

The international transfer window may be closed, but a new domestic window has been open for the last ten days, closing at 5pm on Friday.

And there could yet be some movement of players out the door at the Emirates.

Manager Mikel Arteta could trim his squad by letting a number of players leave, either permanently or on loan, and we take a look at who could be on their way out of the Emirates Stadium before the end of the EFL deadline at 5pm.

Why Arsenal waited so long to pay Thomas Partey's release clause

CALUM CHAMBERS

Injuries have prevented England international Chambers from making a first team appearance in 2020-21.

The eventual arrival of William Saliba and the impressive form of Gabriel Magalhaes in his early Arsenal career have already pushed him way down the pecking order.

Despite Shkodran Mustafi and Pablo Mari also likely to struggle for first team action in the coming weeks, Chambers looks the more realistic option to leave on loan.

He has already spent two seasons of his Arsenal career out on loan, at Middlesbrough and Fulham, and with West Ham failing in a deadline day move, a Championship side could swoop in to add experience to their defensive options, either on loan or permanently.

EMILE SMITH ROWE

England U21 international Smith-Rowe spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship side Huddersfield Town.

Despite being highly rated by Arteta, his first team opportunities are set to be limited again in 2020-21, with Joe Willock and Bukayo Saka moving ahead of him in Arteta’s plans.

Terriers boss Danny Cowley was full of praise for the 20-year old during his eye-catching stint in West Yorkshire, and they could reignite their interest in him again, alongside a queue of rival Championship clubs.

REISS NELSON

Nelson played a regular rotating role in the second half of last season, following Arteta’s arrival in December 2019.

He scored vital winning goals in the 1-0 FA Cup Third Round win over Leeds United and in the 2-1 Premier League win at home to Liverpool in June.

However, the summer arrival of Willian has reduced his role as a backup wide player, and Arteta could sanction a loan move in the right circumstances.

He benefited from a 2018-19 loan spell at Hoffenheim, but the pool of Championship clubs Arteta would allow him to join is small.

FOLARIN BALOGUN

With Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli established in Arteta’s first team plans for the season ahead, neither is expected to leave on loan.

However, highly rated New York-born forward Balogun looks to be the next attacking talent off the production line and sent out on loan.

After bagging 10 goals in 15 Premier League 2 games last season he looks ready for a staggered move into first team action, with the Gunners reportedly rejecting a summer offer from Sheffield United.

But with at least four players blocking his path at the Emirates, a loan exit beckons, and Championship clubs will be very interested in a natural No.9 with a consistent eye for goal.
