Five players Manchester United are tipped to sign in the 2023 summer transfer window

Though the summer transfer window is still less than a week old, Manchester United have already been linked with a plethora of different players.

The Reds, who will face Wolves on the opening weekend of the forthcoming Premier League campaign, have grand ambitions to strengthen their squad this summer. Manager Erik ten Hag has prioritised the addition of a world-class striker and also wants to add both a central-midfielder and a first choice goalkeeper to his ranks.

The Dutchman, as revealed by the Manchester Evening News back in March, has identified Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane as his top target to bolster United's forward options, but the club is still assessing other targets in the event of Spurs refusing to sell him, despite his contract being up in 12 months' time.

United have already put the wheels in motion to try and bring Mason Mount to Old Trafford, reaching an agreement over personal terms three weeks ago. However, the rumour mill is currently in full swing, meaning United are being linked with players left, right and centre.

With that said, MEN Sport has taken a close look at five players that the bookmakers are currently linking with moves to United.

Mason Mount - 1/5

With United having already agreed personal terms with the Chelsea midfielder, there is growing belief that the Portsmouth-born ace will make the switch to M16 this summer. He will add the freshness that Ten Hag wants in midfield and will also bring the average age of the Reds' midfield options down.

Though United are yet to agree a fee with Chelsea, Mount, should he complete a move to Old Trafford, will be expected to compete with Christian Eriksen for a starting berth. The latter tired towards the end of this season and United were in desperate need of a like-for-like replacement to both compete with him and offer the option of rotation.

Emiliano Martinez - 9/2

With David de Gea now increasingly likely to leave Old Trafford, it is no surprise that United are starting to be linked with a plethora of goalkeepers. Originally, the Reds were expected to be on the hunt for a new back-up shot-stopper, but they now plan to bring in a new No.1.

As a result, Aston Villa shot-stopper Martinez has made his way onto the bookies' list as a potential candidate. The former Arsenal goalkeeper enjoyed a memorable 2022/23 campaign, featuring winning the World Cup with Argentina.

Goncalo Ramos - 11/4

Benfica ace Ramos is one of a handful of strikers currently on United's radar. Ten Hag is understood to be a fan of his credentials and he believes that he could make a name for himself in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old, who famously scored a hat-trick for Portugal at last year's World Cup in Qatar, netted 27 goals and grabbed 12 assists in 2022/23 for Benfica, highlighting how effective he is in and around the penalty area. He is attracting plenty of attention from across Europe, meaning he would almost certainly command a big transfer fee.

Harry Kane - 9/1

Though the England captain is United's primary target to strengthen their attacking options this summer, there is already growing doubt that a move to Old Trafford will come to fruition. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who is a stickler when it comes to sanctioning exits for his star players, has no intentions of selling Kane, despite his contract being up in June 2024.

Despite operating in an underperforming Spurs side this season, Kane still managed to plunder 32 goals in all competitions, 30 of which came in the Premier League. He is arguably the closest guarantee to scoring the goals that United are so desperate for.

Victor Osimhen - 9/1

Another striker on United's radar is Napoli star Osimhen. The club pinpointed him as a target back in November and are understood to have tracked him ever since.

He played a key role in helping Napoli scoop their first Serie A title in more than three decades this season, scoring 26 of his 31 goals in the league. In total, he scored 31 times and grabbed five assists in 39 appearances in all competitions.
