Five players Chelsea will look to sell to fund Declan Rice transfer in January

Chelsea are not expected to be too busy when it comes to the January transfer window.

The Blues were the big spenders in the Premier League and six new players have come in and made a difference in the first team.

The Blues will obviously not make the same amount of signings in the winter, but there might be one who they approach.

Chelsea are keen on Declan Rice and could look to make a move for the West Ham midfielder.

However, the Hammers are expected to want a very high price for their star man, with £80million being a potential price.

That would mean Chelsea will have to make space in the squad and raise some funds in order to go after the England international.

But who should they look to move on?

Kepa Arrizabalaga

It’s quite clear now that Edouard Mendy is the number one goalkeeper at the club and Kepa Arrizabalaga’s long-term future is away from Stamford Bridge.

It could be hard for the Blues to outright sell the Spaniard, with a long-term contract meaning the price could be high.

But if they can find a suitable buyer then it’s likely the Blues will cut their losses and move on from the goalkeeper.

Marcos Alonso

With the performances of Ben Chilwell, the left-back position seems pretty secure right now, and Marcos Alonso has slipped down the pecking order.

After the incident at West Brom, where he went to the team bus instead of trying to support his teammates, the Spaniard has not really been near the starting XI.

Alonso has a contract until 2023, and this January could be the time to cash in on him to raise some funds.

Antonio Rudiger

It looked likely that Antonio Rudiger would be heading out of the door in the summer, but a deal never materialised.

The German has got himself back into the matchday squad, and has made a couple of appearances since the start of the season.

But if the Blues want to sell a defender, then the 27-year-old could be the option, with his current deal running out in the summer of 2022.

Jorginho

The Italy international was another one who looked like he could be on his way out in the summer, but he has been kept around.

He has also been a big part of the start of the season, but with the move to 4-3-3 and N’Golo Kante playing in the deeper role, his playing time might be lessened.

The 28-year-old’s contract is done in 2023 and if they want to make some decent money from the Italy international then now could be the time.

Rice would also be an exact swap and could fight with Kante for that important position in the Chelsea team.

Olivier Giroud

The Frenchman was key to Chelsea getting a Champions League spot, but once again he has found himself without much of a chance of playing.

With the Euros around the corner, Olivier Giroud will be looking for a way out to get more playing time, similar to last January.

With only six months or so left on his deal, the Blues wouldn’t get too much for his transfer, but it could be a little bit into the coffers.
