Five places to celebrate Oktoberfest in Liverpool

Some of Liverpool's most popular venues will be hosting Oktoberfest celebrations this month.

Held annually in the German city of Munich, Oktoberfest is a popular folk festival that sees visitors come from all over the globe to enjoy its beers and travelling funfair. The festival is said to be the biggest Oktoberfest event in the world and is an important part of Bavarian culture.

Here in Liverpool, there are plenty of Oktoberfest-themed celebrations taking place - meaning you don't have to go far to enjoy some traditional German food and drink. We've compiled a list of some of the events you can enjoy in the city at locations including Sefton Park, Bierkeller and Camp and Furnace.

Sefton Park

Sefton Park will be home to the biggest Oktoberfest in the North West, with a huge five day event taking place. The festival runs from September 28 to October 2 and includes a Bavarian food village, entertainment from The Amazing Bavarian Stompers and beer from acclaimed German brewery, Maxlrainer.

The food village will be serving up a range of traditional German food including sauerkraut, Bratwurst, roasted meats and pretzels. In addition to evening sessions on each day of the festival, guests can also enjoy a range of afternoon entertainment at the weekend, as well as all the fun of the fairground and much more.

When: September 28 - October 2.

Bundobust

Indian street food and beer connoisseurs Bundobust have added their own spin to Oktoberfest celebrations. The Bundobar! event includes the launch of four Indian street food interpretations of German festival food, two Oktoberfest beer specials and a limited edition ceramic stein crafted by internationally renowned potter, Joe Hartley.

The special dishes on offer include vegan currywurst koftas - dumplings of cauliflower, cabbage and carrot served with a classic currywurst sauce charged with garam masala and a dusting of curry powder. Visitors to the Bold Street branch can enjoy the special menu items until October 23.

Bierkeller

Bierkeller will be hosting the Oktoberfest Day Party on October 15, allowing visitors to enjoy an afternoon of Bavarian food, drink and music. The event will feature a live oompah band and resident DJ, with Bavarian fancy dress encouraged.

The traditional Bavarian food on offer includes hog rolls, schnitzel, pretzels and wursts. Vegan and vegetarian options are also available.

Where: Bierkeller, 6-8 Thomas Steers Way, Liverpool.

When: October 15 from 2pm until 7pm.

Hangar34

A huge Bavarian-themed celebration will be coming to Hangar34 in October. Guests can enjoy music from live oompah bands, authentic German food from a range of independent food traders and Oktoberfest beer.

The venue will be transformed into a Oktoberfest party with a beer hall atmosphere, traditional rows of tables and themed decorations.

When: October 8 from 12pm until 11pm.

Camp and Furnace

Oktoberfest will be coming to Camp and Furnace this October as the venue is transformed into a German beer hall in order to celebrate the festival. The event features music from live band, German Jukebox, allowing guests to have a sing-a-long to traditional music. There will also be a range of food and beers available, along with the chance to dress up in themed costumes.

When: October 15 from 2pm until 6pm.
