Five people now charged with murder after Scenic Rim home invasion

A man and woman have been charged with the murder of a Scenic Rim man, who was shot in the leg during a home invasion last Monday.

Beau Edward Cunningham, 32, was arrested at Caboolture late yesterday afternoon, and Phoenix Nugent, 23, was arrested late yesterday and taken into custody at the Brisbane watch house.

They were charged with murder and appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

Mr Cunningham blew a kiss to supporters sitting in the public gallery before he was remanded in custody.

Ms Nugent did not personally appear when her charge was mentioned.

Both cases were adjourned to December.

The pair now join three other men charged with killing 48-year-old Michael Menzel.

Mr Menzel died after being shot in the leg about 7:00am last Monday at a home in Gleneagle, north of Beaudesert.

A 13-year-old girl was in the house at the time of the incident.

The girl witnessed paramedics trying to save Mr Menzel's life after he lost a significant amount of blood.

A man, 40, was also hit on the head with a hammer during the break-in.

He was treated for minor injuries.

Police believe the home invasion was not a random attack.
