Five Covid fines issued after 'birthday party' at Sunderland care home

Police have issued five fines after a birthday party was reportedly held at a Sunderland care home.

Northumbria Police officers received a report of a suspected Covid breach at Marquis Court care home on Saturday, February 20.

When officers arrived, they found a number of people breaching lockdown rules.

It has been reported that a birthday party was being celebrated at the care home on Tunstall Village Road.

The force confirmed that five fines were issued all for breaching Covid rules.

Current lockdown restrictions state that no close contact indoor visits can take place in care homes.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm that at about 8.30pm on Saturday (February 20) we were alerted to a suspected Covid breach at a premises on Tunstall Village Road.

"Upon attending the premises, officers found a number of people inside breaking Covid rules.

"Officers issued five fines for Covid-19 breaches."
