Five people injured in house fire in Adelaide's north

The house at Elizabeth Vale was extensively damaged.

A man has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition and four others have required treatment after flames ripped through a house at Elizabeth Vale, in Adelaide's north, the SA Ambulance Service has said.

The fire started about 8:30am on Tuesday in the kitchen of the Guerin Road home.

"It was quite a confronting scene, we've had numerous people suffering some severe burns and smoke inhalation," Ambulance spokesman Nathan Parks said.

"They were in the house for some time before they managed to escape the fire."

Emergency services said an elderly man and woman had suffered smoke inhalation while another man had been bitten while trying to get two dogs out of the burning house.

The man who received life-threatening injuries is aged 64 and was still in a critical condition on Tuesday evening.

The blaze has been put out and the cause is being investigated.

The Ambulance Service said the two dogs died.

The damage bill has been estimated at $100,000.
