Five people arrested after video footage emerges of Aberystwyth town centre fight involving knives

A reported knife fight in Aberystwyth's town centre ended in five people getting arrested, two of whom were picked up by police 60 miles away in Carmarthen.

Officers from Dyfed Powys Police responded to calls from residents about two people carrying knives in North Parade in the seaside town on Friday evening.

A video was widely circulated on social media showing the scuffle between a group of men and women, allegedly involving knives.

It happened at around 6.30pm on July 17. Police arrived quickly at the scene and arrested two men aged 23 and 19. Another two men and a woman were arrested in Cross Hands more than 60 miles away, a short while later.

All five are being questioned on suspicion of affray.

Chief Inspector Christina Fraser said: “We received a high number of calls from people concerned about this incident, and we responded immediately, with several units of officers attending.

“We now have five people in custody, and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

"People in the North Parade area of Aberystwyth might see a high number of police officers as enquiries continue to be carried out."
