Fresh calls have been made for Boris Johnson to step down as the Christmas party row deepens, with five Tory MPs demanding he quits.
The Prime Minister is battling a storm of criticism over the festive bash for No10 staff on December 18 last year.
The Met Police has ruled out an official investigation into alleged breaches of Covid rules, but the PM has asked Cabinet Secretary Simon Case to "establish the facts".
Leaked footage of staff, including the PM's former spokeswoman Allegra Stratton, joking about "cheese and wine" at the party and "definitely" no social distancing sparked outrage about the get-together.
Ms Stratton resigned on Wednesday after the video emerged.
Now, The Sun reports that the PM is facing a growing Tory mutiny with some warning him to 'get a grip.'
Five 'newbie' MPs, who joined in the latest intake in 2019, are said to have written letters to demand Mr Johnson quits.
Meanwhile, former Tory chief whip Andrew Mitchell urged the PM to get a grip in order to keep his job.
He told Times Radio: “I hope he will still be Prime Minister in a year — but if Downing Street don’t get a grip and start to deliver the governance many of my colleagues are talking about openly, then the PM will be in considerable trouble.”
When the party allegations first emerged in the Mirror, Downing Street denied that such an event had taken place, but said all rules would have been followed had it happened.
Number 10's robust defence was undermined earlier this week when ITV published a video showing government spokesperson Allegra Stratton joking about an event at Downing Street, leading Boris Johnson to apologise to Prime Minister's Questions.
The PM has always insisted all Covid measures would have been followed if there had been a Christmas party.
Scotland Yard went on to say it would not probe the gathering in Number 10 in December last year due to a lack of evidence.
Now the Good Law Project has written to the Met asking it to justify its failure to investigate reports of an unlawful party being held at No 10 Downing Street on 18 December 2020 - and threatening legal proceedings if it does not do so.
Separately, a quarter of a million Brits have demanded that the Met are investigated over their failure to look into the Downing Street party allegations.
