Five New Orleans Pelicans games to watch while NBA League Pass is free

With the NBA announcing that League Pass would be free and open to the public for the next month, an entire archive of games from the 2019-20 season have been made available on top of a abbreviated historic archive.

The move allows fans to either rewatch memorable games of their favorite teams from this season. It also allows fans access to watch games of other teams as well on the year.

For Pelicans fans, it’s a chance to relive many an exciting moment in a memorable season. Even in a year in which the team suffered through a 13-game losing streak in December. the Pelicans have had a thoroughly enjoyable season, largely due in recent weeks and months to Zion Williamson’s debut and integration into the team.

With most fans having plenty of time to watch NBA games, here are the top five Pelicans games to rewatch from the season.

5. Pelicans at Sacramento, Jan. 4

A game that could have big implications on the Western Conference playoff race, the Pelicans pulled off a memorable win in a wild fourth quarter. New Orleans entered the fourth trailing by four but led by four points with under 10 seconds to go as well.

Lonzo Ball’s 15 fourth-quarter points gave the Pelicans their lead. But a four-point play from Nemanja Bjelica with 4.2 seconds left. JJ Redick sent the Pelicans off with a layup with a high-arcing layup to give the Pelicans a 117-115.

4. Pelicans at Grizzlies, Jan. 20

Another crucial win in the race for the eighth seed, the Pelicans first meeting with the Grizzlies came on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. New Orleans came out on fire and had one of their best shooting performances of the season.

In total, the Pelicans hit 21 three-pointers and opened up a huge double-digit lead. The game also marked Jrue Holiday’s return from a seven-game absence due to injury and he was in peak form, scoring 36 points on 12-of-18 shooting.

Memphis made a late run in the game but New Orleans knocked down big shots in the final minutes to seal the win.

3. Pelicans at Nuggets, Dec. 25

The biggest stage of the season for the Pelicans was one not too bright. On Christmas Day, Brandon Ingram guided New Orleans to one of the biggest wins of the season.

Ingram knocked down seven three-pointers, a career-high, and scored 31 points. Ball had some big shots down the stretch as well as New Orleans picked up its second win of the year over Denver.

2. Pelicans vs. Portland, Feb. 11

Yet again, the Pelicans earned a big win over a fellow competitor for the eighth seed and this was the most impressive of those yet.

Coming up against a version of Damian Lillard that was blistering hot, New Orleans absorbed a terrible first quarter before outscored the Blazers 111-81 over the final three quarters in one of the most dominant displays of the season.

Zion Williamson had one of his best games of the season, finishing with 31 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

1. Pelicans vs. Jazz, Jan. 16

The Pelicans and Jazz have developed a bit of a budding rivalry this season with some high-intensity game. Prior to the Jan. 16 meeting, the Jazz and Pelicans were involved in one controversial ending in which Ingram was fouled at the final buzzer by Rudy Gobert but referees missed the call.

Only a handful of days later, the two sides met again and had an even more dramatic meeting. Ingram solidified his All-Star candidacy with a career-high 49 points and hit what looked to be the game-winner in the final seconds.

But another controversial ending saw Utah tie the game after a questionable foul call, sending the game to overtime. The Pelicans  controlled the extra period, though, and secured a win in front of its home fans.
