Five new clients after Angus 3D Solutions spins out machining arm

A manufacturing firm in Brechin has won five clients after spinning out its machining service as a standalone company.

Angus Machining Solutions (AMS) has been separated from Angus 3D Solutions by managing director Andy Simpson, who has created The Angus Solutions Group as the parent company for the two businesses. Simpson hopes to recruit a second member of staff for AMS later this year [2020] and aims to turn over £500,000.

AMS’s projects so far have included a £400,000 contract to make components for a Canadian oil and gas supply company. It is also working with customers in the renewable energy and lifestyle sectors.

Simpson set up Angus 3D Solutions in 2017 and received a £175,000 grant the following year [2018] from Zero Waste Scotland for a Markforged Metal-X three-dimensional (3D) metal printer. Last month, [January] the company – which now employs three people – received a £39,000 regional selective assistance grant from Scottish Enterprise to fuel its three-year expansion plan.

Last year [2019] the company was a finalist in three of the categories at Scottish Business Insider magazine’s Made in Scotland Awards. Simpson said: “We’re excited to launch this new company to enable us to better meet the demand for the outsourced machining and manufacturing services we’ve offered through Angus 3D Solutions and which are already proving to be in high demand across a range of industries and company sizes.

“This will also allow each of our companies to focus on their core services and markets and grow at rates appropriate to each of them.  I’m looking forward to seeing how they grow this year and create and support more Scottish manufacturing jobs.”
