Five more die from coronavirus in Leeds as UK total surpasses 8,000

Five more people in Leeds have died after contracting coronavirus, NHS England has confirmed.

It means that the total figure for Leeds has risen to 73, although it is the slowest rise for a number of days.

Sheffield was once again the area of Yorkshire to see the highest number of total deaths, with another nine people passing away in the South Yorkshire city over the past 24 hours.

494 people across the whole of Yorkshire have died so far after contracting Covid-19.

The latest daily figures for the UK have also been announced, with the total death toll now standing at more than 8,000.

All the latest figures are from confirmed deaths recorded between 5pm on April 8 and 5pm on April 9.

  • Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 9
