Five more countries set to be added to UK's green list in two weeks

Five more countries could be added to the UK's green list when the next travel update is announced.

Travellers arriving in England from amber list countries such as Spain or France, who are not fully vaccinated must self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival and take a PCR test on day two and day eight.

They may be able to get out of quarantine early by paying for a private PCR test to be taken on day five under the Test to Release scheme.

Those with two vaccines only need to take a PCR test on day two of their arrival and can skip self-isolation - the same rules apply to those who are under the age of 18 regardless of their vaccination status.

Anyone returning from a green list country need only have proof of a negative Covid-19 test before travel, fill in a passenger locator form and take a test on day two after arrival.

The results of the latest review should be revealed on Wednesday or Thursday, August 25-26, ahead of the bank holiday weekend.

Travel consultancy The PC Agency has analysed data and identified at least a dozen nations that could be handed green status, but it is more likely just a handful of countries will be upgraded, reports WalesOnline.

Criteria is based on nations having significantly lower case numbers than the UK and a vaccination rate above 50 per cent of adult populations.

The five nations that could be moved from amber status to the green list are:

  • Poland
  • Canada
  • Bosnia and Herzogovina
  • Czech Republic
  • Lithuania

Paul Charles, founder of The PC Agency, posted on Twitter: "There are still many countries which should be on the green list; there is no guarantee that government won’t switch a country at short notice; and no cap on test costs.

"Travel remains in a government armlock."
