Five more coronavirus deaths recorded at Wirral hospitals

Five more people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Wirral.

The peninsula saw the vast majority of regional fatalities in today's update, with the only other Covid-19 death recorded across Merseyside hospitals at the St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust.

The five Wirral deaths take the borough's main Trust to a total of 231 coronavirus deaths.

The one further death at St Helens and Knowsley's Trust gives a total of 202.

There were no virus deaths recorded anywhere else in the latest update - with none across any of Liverpool's hospitals.

  • Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Royal, Aintree, Broadgreen): 451

National picture

Across the country, the total UK coronavirus death has risen by 202 today.

The Department of Health has just reported the rise in deaths - which takes the government's total death toll to 41,481 - although it is thought to be siginificantly higher.

In England, the NHS said that a further 70 deaths had been recorded, with the North West once again the worst affected with 23 deaths.

This was significantly higher than other regions, with just three in the South West and 4 in the East of England.

The youngest death patient to die in England was just 24.

Not all the deaths have occured in the past 24 hours but this is when they were officially recorded
