Five million meth pills seized

Almost five million methamphetamine pills have been seized in Chiang Rai in two days.

Early yesterday, provincial police, following a tip-off, searched a pickup truck parked outside a shophouse in Mae Sai district and found more than 4.1 million speed pills packed in sacks, and more than 200kg of ketamine in the building.

Police arrested Sapachai Rungruang, 31, and Kittipong Panchompoo, 24.

Police said they both confessed they were hired to transport the drugs to a customer in Phrae province and planned to transport the drugs yesterday.

In another case, four drug suspects were arrested on Wednesday with 880,000 methamphetamine pills in Muang district.

The four were identified as Sitthichok Boriboon, 28, from Bangkok; Sahaphab Piyarat, 24, from Samut Prakan; Siwan Singkhunthot, 20, from Nakhon Ratchasima; and Worawong Thahom, 20, from Prachin Buri.

The four were detained at Mae Fah Luang airport after two of them delivered four parcels containing 880,000 speed pills to a freight transportation company at the airport to send them to Bangkok.

Police also discovered a one kilogramme pack of crystal meth inside one of the parcels.

The parcels also bore a receiver's name, Sarin Ritsakul, and a mobile phone number.
