Five men travelling from Glasgow to Cumbria for new car in covid-19 lockdown intercepted by police

Five men travelling from Glasgow to Cumbria were intercepted by the police after trying to flout coronavirus lockdown rules to buy a new car.

An insured car was also seized as Cumbria Roads Police 'dealt with' the five by enforcing Covid-19 legislation.

The police department hit out at the unacceptable trip, taking to Twitter late last night to say: "How is travelling from Glasgow to Northumbria and then through Cumbria to buy a car an essential journey?

"Five males dealt with under Covid-19 legislation and one car seized for being uninsured.

"STAY AT HOME. This is not acceptable!"

Meanwhile, a further four men, again from Glasgow, were also met by police after making the 'non-essential' journey from our city to a Worcestershire service station as they attempted to buy a car.

Operation Patrols Unit Worcestershire Tweeted last night: "Strensham services NB, four males have travelled down from Glasgow to buy a car from the services. Didn’t think the lockdown applied to them.

"That is NOT an essential journey. Suitably advised. However both cars will now not start"
