Five key talking points from Nottingham Forest's win over Swansea City

Nottingham Forest continued their brilliant early season away form with a 1-0 win at Championship leaders Swansea on Saturday.

Once again, Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi was tactically spot on as the Reds soaked up early pressure before taking a grip of the game, with Joao Carvalho at the heart of their best work.

Lewis Grabban saw a goal ruled out and hit the bar, but he was the architect of the winner for Alfa Semedo with seven minutes to go.

Here, we take a look at five talking points from the game.

1. Master tactician

Sabri Lamouchi might not know everything about the Championship, but he knows a lot about football, especially how to set up a team.

Forest have now gone to Fulham and Swansea and won and drawn with Leeds and Charlton on the road. You don't do that with blind luck.

The manager has his team play with a shape that can protect the back four and hit teams on the break, as we saw with Alfa Semedo's winner.

This basic system is then tweaked for each opponent with different midfields picked for different opponents.

2. Bold selection

Forest had not lost since the opening game of the season, but Lamouchi still made five changes to his team, with only one of those forced upon him.

It was certainly a surprise to see Jack Robinson and Joe Lolley on the bench, but the manager was once again proved right. He is not afraid to leave out fan favourites or a consistent performer in Robinson, if he feels it is best for that game.

Robinson's replacement, Yuri Ribeiro, showed he merited his selection, although Albert Adomah, who replaced Lolley, was less effective on the day.

3. Clever substitutions

Without wanting this piece to turn into a Lamouchi love in, the Frenchman was a 10/10 at the Liberty Stadium.

Whenever a team gets on top of Forest in any game, the manager is ready to make a change. That was especially the case against Preston with

Samba Sow coming on after 45 minutes. Here, Lolley came on before the hour mark and Alfa Semedo came on after 67 minutes, just Swansea were starting to look dangerous.

4. Triangle is the strongest shape

Ben Watson: 'It's not about me; It's about the team.'

Geometry dictates that triangles are the strongest shape. Forest have their own triangle which provides the base for the rest of team which stands on top of it.

For the Reds, Michael Dawson, Joe Worrall and Ben Watson are their base. Worrall and Dawson have been excellent in the heart of the defence all season with Watson sat just in front of them when Forest don't have the ball and often alongside them or in behind them when they have the ball in their own half.

Without those three playing well it would all fall apart and they were all excellent at the Liberty Stadium, especially Watson, who must surely be winning over the fans.

5. Lolley typifies team spirit

It was a surprise to see Lolley left out and the winger could have gone through the motions when he came. In an attacking sense, he did pretty much nothing in 36 minutes on the pitch.

However, defensively Lolley was excellent as he supported Matty Cash at right back. His commitment was typified late in the game when he flew in to make a brilliant sliding block.

This wouldn't happen without a unified, committed camp who believes in the manager with everyone buying in to what the team are trying to achieve.
