Five Instagram accounts to follow for feel-good Seventies interiors vibes

Think the 1970s is the decade that taste forgot? Think again. While the era certainly had its fair share of questionable trends — we’re looking at you, artex ceilings and carpeted bathrooms — there was also a sense of playfulness and fun, reflected in home design.

From the joyful, nature-inspired colour palette of burnt orange, mustard yellow and olive green through to the touchy-feely fabrics and social seating arrangements — the 70s was all about a hopeful optimism for the future (something we can all relate to right now).

So here are five Instagram accounts to follow for 70s interiors inspo — shag pile carpet optional:

If Elvis Presley’s Graceland was in Margate, this is what it’d look like. Singer-turned-designer Whinnie always wows with her eye for a second hand bargain in her dreamy location house by the sea.

Estelle’s whole home is a homage to the disco decade (her bathroom even has mirror balls suspended from the ceiling).

Plus, she sells vintage-style vinyl so you can get the look, too.

Mixing old with new, interior designer Natasha expertly shows us how to make retro feel ‘right now’ — and that you don’t have to go all out 70s to tap into the trend.

Ben’s carefully putting the authentic 70s detail back into his home, one electric fireplace at a time.

We’re here for that colour palette and attention to detail.

Wood panelling? Check. House plants aplenty? Check. Autumnal colour palette? Oh yes.

We’re constantly California dreamin’ about Laura’s midcentury shack, designed by Fred Blecksmith.
