Five injured after ‘free-for-all’ brawl outside college

Five people were wounded after a fight between two groups broke out near a college in Bournemouth.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the violence, which took place on Meyrick Road, at around 2.46pm.

Bournemouth and Poole College said the brawl on Thursday afternoon did not take place on its grounds.

One of the victims was taken to a major casualty centre but police said none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

A parent, who was outside the college to pick up their son, told the Bournemouth Echo: “It was like a free-for-all brawl in the road. Never seen scenes like it.”

Student Henry Tootal, 20, said he saw three people being taken out on stretchers.

Several witnesses have said stabbings took place but this has not been confirmed by police.

There was a major 999 response, with police officers and ambulances attending the scene.

Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police received a report at 2.46pm on Thursday 25 January 2024 of a disturbance in Meyrick Road in Bournemouth.

“Officers attended the scene and five people were reported to have sustained injuries. All have been taken to hospital for treatment.

“One of them has sustained injuries that are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

“Two people were arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. A third person has been arrested on suspicion of assault by beating.

“Following the initial response of officers at the scene, this matter is now in an investigative phase and a policing presence will remain in the vicinity as further enquiries are conducted and a number of cordons have been put in place.

“Officers can be approached by members of the public with any information or concerns and neighbourhood policing teams will be carrying out reassurance patrols in the area.”
