Five in hospital and one critical after late night crash in Cardiff involving taxi

Five people have been taken to hospital and one person is in a critical condition following a late night crash involving a taxi.

One woman suffered serious injuries in the crash, which happened at around 11.10pm on Thursday night on the A4161 Lansdowne Road junction with Cowbridge Road East, Canton, Cardiff.

The incident involved a black and white Volkswagen Caddy Taxi and a black Volvo car.

In total, five people were taken to the University Hospital of Wales and one woman is in a critical condition after suffering serious injuries.

South Wales Police is now appealing for witnesses to the incident.

A force spokeswoman said: "We are investigating a serious Road Traffic Collision, which happened at around 11.10pm yesterday (July 30) on the A4161 Lansdowne Road junction with Cowbridge Road East, Canton, Cardiff.

"The incident involved a black and white Volkswagen Caddy Taxi and a black Volvo motor vehicle. In total five people were taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, one woman suffering serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.

"Officers wish to thank members of the public who assisted at scene. The road was closed for some time.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the involved vehicles prior to the collision or anyone in the area with dash cam footage."
