Five hurt in major smash as firefighters cut out casualties with road shut off

Five people were hurt in a horror crash in Crumpsall this evening.

Firefighters cut three people out of the wreckage after being scrambled to the scene on Waterloo Street.

The emergency services were called at 10.17pm to reports of a crash involving two cars.

A spokesman for the fire service said there were five casualties.

Three people were rescued by firefighters in the aftermath of the collision.

The nature of their injuries is currently unclear.

The M.E.N. has approached GMP for further information.

"At 10.17pm firefighters from Blackley and Philips Park fire stations and the technical response unit from Ashton were deployed to a road traffic collision on Waterloo Street in Crumpsall, Manchester," a fire service spokesman said.

"The incident involved two vehicles and five injured people.

"Three people were trapped and in need of fire service extraction.

"All three people have now been rescued by firefighters who worked closely with colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service to protect the people involved."

Waterloo Street remains shut off from Celia Street to Brightside Road.
