Five horses have their legs slashed in stables in late night attack

Five horses suffered serious slash wounds to their legs after a knife attack at rural stables.

The animals were found with severe cuts to their rear legs at Moat House Farm in Gorsey Lane, in between Bold in St Helens and Burtonwood in Warrington.

Merseyside Police are investigating the incident which happened between midnight and 4.30am last Friday.

None of the horses required veterinary care for their injuries.

Many attacks on animals are investigated by the RSPCA, but in this case, police are taking the lead to find those responsible.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We were contacted at 5.15pm on Friday 17th July following reports that five horses at Moat House Farm in Gorsey Lane, Bold, had suffered cuts to their rear legs.

"None of the horses required veterinary assistance.
