Five holiday cottages in Wales still available to book for Bank Holiday weekend

It’s a story we’re all familiar with - you want to go on holiday but you can’t afford to risk quarantine, you don’t want to catch Covid at the airport, and frankly, it's a lot of hassle.

Staycations have skyrocketed over the last couple of years, as people seek out a break.

Google searches for ‘last-minute holiday cancellations’ shot up by 455% in the last two months alone.

Here are five of the best picks from around Wales that are still available for the August Bank Holiday weekend and worth considering for a short break.

Plus, early forecasts are predicting a scorcher.

Shepherd’s Hut - Carmarthenshire

Available Friday 27 - Sunday 29 for £484 (2 nights)

Stay in an adorable cottage-core dream with this wooden fitted shepherd’s hut style accommodation in Carmarthenshire.

The cosy hut is nestled in the countryside of St. Clears, just north of Carmarthen Bay and within easy driving distance of the Pembrokeshire coast.

A wood burning stove and underfloor heating provide the perfect setting for an idealistic escape on your own or with a loved one.

Luxury Fishing Lodge - Llangeitho

Available Friday 27 - Sunday 29 for £810 (2 nights)

This high end cabin has its own hot tub and wood burner and overlooks a fishing lake. It can sleep up to four in two bedrooms.

Set in mid-Wales, the Llyn Cae Ty Nant Fishery Holiday Let is an open plan, single storey lodge near the Cambrian mountains.

Nearby, you can enjoy the abundance of beaches Ceredigion Bay has to offer and the Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron with its variety of independent shops and restaurants.

River Cottage - Port Talbot

Available Friday 27 - Sunday 29 for £460 (2 nights)

This quaint, pet-friendly cottage in the seaside town of Port Talbot is set on the river in the small village of Cymmer.

The unusual interior brings the outdoors inside, with wallpaper showing a woodland scene and a backdrop of ivy behind the double bed.

The cottage is in the Rhondda Valley, next to Maesteg, within a good distance of driving to the Brecon Beacons National Park where you can embark on a number of trails and climb Pen-y-Fan mountain.

Telford House - Bangor

Available Friday 27 - Monday 30 for £5,388 (3 nights)

This glamorous waterside house overlooks the Menai Strait in north Wales with a front row view of the impressive bridge.

The house is pet-friendly and sleeps up to 14 guests in six bedrooms, with parking available for eight cars. Each room has a view of the Strait or the property’s beautiful gardens.

Nearby, you can head over to local village Menai Bridge, talk a walk through the Snowdonia National Park, or explore the wonders of Anglesey including the National Trust Plas Newydd House and Anglesey Sea Zoo.

Swallows Rest, Powys

Available Friday 27 - Monday 30 for £2,819 (3 nights)

A characterful, timber-clad barn conversion in Montgomery, Powys, Swallows Rest has great views of the mid-Wales countryside.

The house sleeps up to six and is full of rustic exposed beams and furnishings with a modern twist, situated in a quiet village location of Llandyssil, two-and-a half miles from Montgomery.

Head to Montgomery, an historic town a mile west of the English border full of cafés, inns, restaurants, two castles and a brewery.
