Five Guys, the upmarket burger chain backed by Carphone Warehouse founder Sir Charles Dunstone, is planning to open its first UK drive-thru sites after the success of its pandemic-era “curbside” collection service.

The expanding UK business, a 50:50 venture between Dunstone and Five Guys' US-based founder, the Murrell family, currently has 110 sites around the country.

The company is believed to be in talks on two or three sites for the drive-thru debut, set to take place this summer.

The "curbside" scheme, launched after the pandemic hit last year, removed the need for customers to leave their cars to collect their patties, unlike with usual click&collect orders.

It is operated through the chain's app and website and sees a staff member bring parcels out to waiting customers.
