Five Guys is opening its first south Manchester restaurant

Burger chain Five Guys has submitted plans to open a new restaurant in south Manchester.

The US brand already has sites in Manchester Arndale, University Green on Oxford Road, the Trafford Centre and Ashton-under-Lyne.

Now it's taking on a unit at Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre in Didsbury, according to a planning application submitted to the council.

The fast food chain is known for its signature double patties and for allowing diners to customise their burgers with as many toppings as they like, included in the price.

The plans, which seek permission for a new internal fit-out of an existing unit at the complex, don't confirm which site it will replace.

The Wilmslow Road centre is already home to restaurants and bars including Nando's, Wagamama, Pizza Hut and the Barlow Croft pub, which are all currently open.

The Bella Italia unit is currently empty, having been closed when the Italian chain's parent company Casual Dining Group collapsed into administration in July.

Frankie & Benny's has also permanently closed, leaving another unit available.

A Frankie & Benny's spokeswoman said: "The casual dining sector has faced enormous, well documented pressures which have been exacerbated by Covid-19 and the lockdown.

"Unfortunately, we have had to take difficult but necessary decisions to ensure a sustainable future for our business.

"We have been in close contact with affected colleagues throughout this process and we are doing all we can to support them during this time.”

The complex also includes a Cineworld cinema, Tenpin bowling alley, Grosvenor Casino, a Travelodge hotel and a Nuffield Health gym.

Five Guys declined to comment on the plans.
