Five-goal Lugar rout could've been higher, says Shotts boss John McKeown

Shotts boss John McKeown insists his side could have been even more ruthless after thumping Lugar Boswell Thistle 5-0 on Saturday.

The Bonnie returned from Ayrshire with a resounding win that put them top of the West of Scotland League Conference A, but McKeown expects a tougher task against Whitletts Vics this weekend.

McKeown said: “To be honest we were a wee bit wasteful in front of goal and I felt we could have been even more ruthless, but you’ve got to be happy when you’ve gone away from home, down to Ayrshire, and won 5-0.

“It moves us to the top of the league, albeit Arthurlie have a couple of games in hand, but I was happy with it.

“With all due respect to Lugar, we’ve got a much tougher test against Whitletts, who are up there, so it will be a much more difficult game.

“They’ll be well organised, they’re a big, physical side with good experience about them, so it will be a hard game.”

Amassing points during a hectic schedule of three games a week has been important for Shotts, and McKeown says they must keep it going.

He added: “It’s good to be able to get them in training, to go over things, and there are still a lot of tired legs, but it’s good to let them recover a wee bit.

“It was a bit crazy having them play so many games, but everybody had the same schedule and we all had to deal with it.”
