Five garda members were hospitalised on Wednesday night after being "punched, kicked and spat at" in an incident in Co Laois.
The emergency services dealt with multiple incidents in the Portlaoise area with gardai "assaulted" at two separate call outs.
Four members of the force were brought to A&E for their injuries with another officer kept overnight for treatment.
Multiple arrests were made on the night with court appearances to follow.
A garda spokesperson said: "Overnight our colleagues in Portlaoise dealt with a number of incidents which involved individuals acting aggressive and violent towards ambulance service and Gardaí. Two particular incidents involved Gardaí being punched, kicked and spat at.
"Five Gardai were assaulted, four were treated in A&E with one detained in hospital overnight.
"Arrests where made in each situation and court appearances will follow. Substance and alcohol abuse key factor in each situation."
