Fire service gives expected cause of major flat fire

An unattended pan on the hob is suspected as the cause of a fire in a Mansfield flat.

Crews from Mansfield, Ashfield, Edwinstowe and Blidworth were in attendance at St Crispins Court in Dallas Street, Mansfield.

On arrival the firefighters were met with plumes of smoke billowing from the property.

Officials said a high-pressure hose reel and a thermal imaging camera were used to extinguish the fire. There have been no reported injuries.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said an unattended pan on the hob was believed to be the cause of the fire which occurred at around 8.15pm on Wednesday, October 20.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "On 20 October 2021 at 20:18 we were called to a building fire at St Crispins Court, Mansfield.

"Five fire engines were in attendance from Mansfield, Ashfield, Blidworth and Edwinstowe, alongside an aerial ladder platform.

"Firefighters used a high-pressure hose reel, a thermal imaging camera and a positive pressure ventilator to clear the smoke and extinguish the fire.

"There were no injuries. We left the scene at 21:30."

In a Facebook post, the fire station added: "On arrival a flat could be seen to be heavily smoke logged.

"Our firefighters quickly gained entry into the flat wearing breathing apparatus.

"Once inside they found an unattended pan on the hob. This was quickly dealt with."
