Many European hotspots are likely to in demand and prices could increase considerably as a result.
With that in mind, here are some European destinations to check out and add to your bucket list. If you fancy staying closer to home, why not see our list of seven places to visit in the UK first.
Budapest, Hungary
Just a quick two-hour flight from Dublin, Budapest (when it fully opens) is perfect for a long weekend break in the sun.

While not exactly on a beach, there are plenty of waterside places to hang out and soak up some rays.
Lupa Beach is a mere 15 minutes from the city and has everything you could possibly need for a unique beachside experience, including a gastro promenade with street food of every description, beach clubs and a children's beach specifically catering to little ones' safety.
Add to that the water adventure park, trampoline park and water dodgems, and it makes the perfect family outing. Back in the city, head to Buda Castle for some culture or take an evening cruise along the Danube.
Tavira, Portugal
Forget Albufeira, Tavira is the Portuguese town that should be on your list, with its charming combination of Portuguese heritage and Moorish influence.

Cobbled streets and plazas house a myriad of restaurants and shops and of course, being the Algarve, there are a wealth of golf courses and beaches surrounding the town.
There is plenty to do for all the family with day trips, horse-riding, swimming and eating along with a good dose of culture.
What else do you need?
Athens, Greece
One for the history buffs, Athens is back open for business.

On the must-see list is The Acropolis for views that are mind blowing followed by a wander around The Acropolis Museum and then lunch in Plaka, the neighbourhood just below The Acropolis with its ancient sites, museums, churches and squares crammed with buzzing restaurants and bars.
An evening at Cine Paris is a cinema date with a difference, with views of The Acropolis from its rooftop location that will make this a special experience.
Rome, Italy
If ever there were a year to indulge in ‘La Dolce Vita’, 2021 is it.
Rome has endless appeal as a city break destination with its unending historical sites, gelato, pasta and of course, aperitivo hour.
The Colosseum, The Forum and Vatican City should be on the list, but let’s face it, there must be 100 others too.
Eat pizza in Forno, in the pretty Campo di Fiori neighbourhood, sit on The Spanish Steps (although sitting may no longer be permitted) to enjoy your gelato and head to Piazza Navona for an aperol spritz, or even just a beer if that’s your thing.
Yes, it’s pricey but we have earned it after all.
Biarritz, France
Once the go-to destination for the elite ‘bright young things’ of the roaring 20s, Biarritz fell of the travel radar for a long time but now it seems to have resurfaced.

Hotel Le Madrid has been the centre of everything since it opened 100 years ago with its buzzy café just five minutes from the harbour.
If you get tired of sitting around people watching, head to one the many beaches for a dip or indeed the Aquarium for a wander.
There is also a lighthouse to discover, plenty of boulevards and squares to navigate and The Imperial Chapel for some culture.
