Five Dublin beer gardens we can't wait to get back to when restrictions are lifted

Pubs are finally set to reopen in less than a month for outdoor dining and pints so what better time to have a look at some of our favourite beer gardens in the city centre.

You'd be shocked at the number of beer gardens hidden away bang smack in the middle of town.

With summer 2021 set to be enjoyed mostly outside, beer gardens can look forward to a flood of business and we can't wait to finally meet up with friends and enjoy some delicious pints.

But which ones should you visit? Here's five of our favourites:

Toners, Baggot Street

First up, the creme de la creme of beer gardens, not only for the location but for the quality of Guinness too.

Toners is regularly praised for having one of the best pints of Guinness in Dublin.

For many a year, the pub has been a favourite haunt of tourists and business folk alike.

And don't be fooled by the unassuming front. The beer garden actually extends back for what seems like an eternity.

On Friday evening, when the Guinness and whiskey are flowing, you won't find anywhere better.

Imagine how amazing the atmosphere would have been if Ireland had qualified for the delayed Euro 2020.

The Back Page, Phibsborough

Next up we go to a boozer on the north side of the city that is special place for sports fans and particularly Bohs supporters. That can only mean The Back Page.

Offering some of the finest pizza in the city, The Back Page also has a massive choice of craft beers on tap which isn't a surprise given it's owned by Bodytonic, the company behind other pubs such as The Bernard Shaw and MVP.

The Pav, Trinity College

The Pav has to be on any list when beer gardens are mentioned. Well, it's not a beer garden per se but the fact that it's next to a massive cricket pitch that folks can set up shop on and enjoy their lovely cans.

Four cans for €8 isn't to be sniffed at. If it's sunny, get there early. You have been warned.

McGrattan's, Fitzwilliam Lane

McGrattan's Pub, Fitzwilliam Lane (Google Maps)

McGrattan's isn't usually a spot associated with a beer garden. After all, it's only a small section out the rear of the pub but it's always been a cracking spot.

It's been a favourite of the rich and powerful - and maybe a Taoiseach or two - down through the years so there's always great stories to uncover.

There's lovely lounge chairs out the back and an open fireplace and you don't have to worry about the unpredictable Dublin weather as it's all covered in a Perspex roof.

Blackbird, Rathmines

Blackbird Pub (Facebook)

The centre of the hipster drinking scene in Dublin, Blackbird has become a must-visit these last few years.

If you're a fan of pizza, board games, free Chipsticks and Drumsticks, and an extensive beer menu, then Blackbird is for you.
