Five Dublin beaches see bathing bans lifted as water quality 'back to normal'

Swimming bans have been lifted on five South Dublin beaches after water quality is now "back to normal"

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has said Seapoint, The Forty Foot, Sandycove, Killiney, and White Rock are now good for a dip after a ban right across the south of the capital after a sewage overflow in Ringsend.

Tests came back on Sunday night with DLR saying all notices have now been removed.

They said: "Water quality testing results have come through in all bathing areas in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and they are now back to normal.

"All temporary bathing prohibition notices have been removed from all bathing areas. All warning flags at lifeguards beaches have been removed."

Despite the good news, three beaches continue to have restrictions but may see the ban lifted when results come back on Monday evening.

Dollymount, Sandymount, and Merrion Strands all had water quality samples taken on Friday.

Last week, with Merrion and Sandymount both rating poorly.

It was the fourth year in a row Merrion was given a "poor" rating and will no longer be classified as a bathing area if it gets the same score next year.

Both Merrion and Sandymount have seen water quality drop due to the sewage overflow - but also have issues with pollution the Elm Park and Trimleston streams.
